Aurel Schmidt for Opening Ceremony
A few weeks ago, while I was doing some research for my Slambase profiles, I came across Aurel Schmidt, a visual artist from Kamloops, B.C. whose work is currently featured at the famous Whitney Biennial in New York City. But her even more recent project was to design the entrance banner at the new Opening Ceremony shop in the Ace Hotel in NYC.
According to Opening Ceremony's website, the sign is made up of "trash, food, blood, cigarette butts, and other grotesque, everyday debris". This project has spawned a collection of t-shirts, one featuring each letter of the alphabet exactly as they are in the banner. The unisex t-shirts are available for purchase at the shop but if you aren't planning a trip to New York anytime soon, you can enter for your chance to win one here. Enter quickly though; the contest ends tonight just before midnight. Below are a few of my favourites.
