Kevin is back! This time he's not wearing pants. Ok, he's not back, he's doing his own thing and it's poppin' off. But anyways, the No Pants! Subway Ride took place January 10th and had over 350 participants. The event was put together by Improv In Toronto and they made a little video showcasing the festivities. Check it out below.

Another sixpack you wish you had

The other day, I was leaving the Beer Store with a six-pack in my hand but I couldn't carry it by the handle because I was afraid the weak carboard would rip and the bottles would smash all over the street. Not that holding the six-pack from the bottom is a big deal but, somehow, holding things by their handles always looks classier. Thanks to Dutch designer OOOMS, I can now carry my beer to my friends and look like a boss doing it with the Sixpack. Although I have to just say that if I lived in the Netherlands, I don't know how much drinking I'd be doing...

Shoe Drop

My goodness, the men and women who design Nike shoes never seem to stop. In less than 60 seconds (no exaggeration I promise), I found seven new pairs that debuted today. While most of them are SBs, there are a few other stlyes including a Mid Premium and various forms of Dunks. Nike's running a tight ship lately, as these new releases are a combination of subtle and more pronounced colour patterns in order to spread their brand to a wide variety of customers.

Some New Music

One of my favourite rappers Consequence, drops a new track entitled Childish Games, and features a guest spot from Asher Roth. This track is slated to appear on Con's mixtape that comes out in February; he's also putting out a new album sometime in 2010. I'm looking forward to both and will pass them along as I receive them.

Good Morning: Kimmel On Leno

If you aren't up to date on the Late Night Wars as they've becoming known, here's the gist: NBC gave Jay Leno a new time slow at 10pm for The Jay Leno Show and subsequently named Conan O'Brien the host of the historic Tonight Show (Heeeeere's Johnny!) slot at 11:35. After Leno's show didn't do nearly as well as NBC had hoped for so it seems as though their bumping Conan to the "ungodly" hour of 12:05 and give Leno a half-hour show at 11:35. This has caused quite a stir amongst...well pretty much everyone is getting in on the debate. Watch Kimmel tear Leno apart below.

Jason Tozer

Photographer Jason Tozer caught my eye today as I was searching for cool stuff (I have to figure out how to get paid to do this). Unlike most photographers, Tozer captures crystal-clear images that milliseconds later would look entirely different. I'm far from an expert in the technical aspects of camera, but I think I'm right in saying his shutter speed is disgustingly fast as he manages to take multiple shots of sequences that only last for a few seconds. Trozer has created advertisement for Peroni, NME-TV, Johnnie Walker & Havana Club, besides doing his own shoots and projects. All of his shots are great and I hope you enjoy them.

Status Update: Drake

I meant to post this yesterday but I started falling asleep so it had to wait until today - and I'm glad I did. Not only do I have two new tracks to link y'all but I got some exciting news today. For all the fans, Drake is going to be touring North America with k-os from April 5th to May 9th. That's all I know for now but I promise to provide updates as I get them. I have to admit though, as much as I like k-os as an artist, this is a weird tour combo; should be a great show regardless.

Anyways, these new tracks, "Where Were You" (feat. Colin Munroe) & "My New Sh*t" are featured on the latest drop in the unofficial Heartbreak Drake series. The links are embedded in the titles.

On a final note, as much of a Drake fan as I am, there is a very low shot I'll watch his new DVD entitled A Thing of the Seasons that drops tomorrow. Wyclef x Play Cloths x Haiti

The Clipse's clothing line, Play Cloths, has hooked up with singer/songwriter/producer Wyclef Jean (a native of Haiti) to create a "Haiti Relief Effort" tee with 100% of the profits heading to Yele - a relief effort organization to Jean supports. The tee features the traditional Jack logo carrying a Haitian flag.

To note: When I tried accessing the Yele website, it was unavailable so from a quick Google search I found that the first article questioned Yele's ability to handle such a large relief effort (some are saying that Yele has managed to raise as much as $11 million so far through $5 text messages donations). As of this point, I am not an expert on the situation but I felt that was important to post.

In closely related news, the pictures of the all-star edition of the Zoom Kobe V came out today. The all-star edition, unlike the original's purple and yellow colourway, features a primarily red colourway in honour of the Western Conference. According to DimeMag, "a patch on the heel of the insole is marked with his name, conference, nickname (”The Black Mamba”), the year, and a reminder that he his a “Three X MVP” of the NBA All-Star Game."

High School VC is VERY scary

After writing the post below, I began dabbling through dunk contest history, and I found a video of the 1995 McDonald's High School Dunk Contest. The event features Paul Pierce against Vince Carter, a precursor to what may be the most stacked McDonald's game in history.

Alongside 'The Truth' and VC were Kevin Garnett, Chancey Billups, Stephon Marbury, Shareef (the leaf) Abdur-Rahim, Antawn Jamison and Ron Mercer. In the video, young versions of Pierce and Carter entertain through the air, although my favourite part is with Carter standing firmly on the ground. Check out the face that Carter has while being interviewed. It's as if he can see his future beyond the camera, and already hates Canada. What's particularly enjoyable about the image is that it mirrors precisely the facial expression I would have if I was unfortunate enough to meet Carter. Minus the crustauche of course.

Dunk-In De-Ro!

Demar Derozan, the Toronto Raptors rookie, and LA Clippers guard Eric Gordon, are competing against each other in a 'dunk-in' to decide which will enter the NBA Dunk Contest. After two dunks each, a fan vote will decide whose worthy of entrance. The event will take place on All-Star weekend before the Rookie vs. Sophomore game that Derozan and Gordon have been selected to play in. The 'dunk-in' is this year's version of H.O.R.S.E, continuing in the NBA tradition of trying to fill All-Star weekend with 24 hours of programming.

Demar's been speaking boldly about the 'dunk-in', a surprise considering how trivial the event appears. When asked by a reporter if Gordon was good dunking competition, Derozan responded,

"He's more of a three point shooter so it should be fun. He knows what he's going up against, and I know what he's going up against."

Derozan has also been quoted saying he could beat Michael Jordan if he was to enter the contest. I hope he is referring to 46 year-old, part-owner of the Bobcats MJ and not the poster version.

But wait, maybe Derozan can support his strong words with showtime jams. He has been catching and finishing alley-op passes from Jose Calderon and Jarrett Jack all season. And he did win the McDonald's All-American Dunk Contest; other former winners include Lebron James, and Vince Carter.

I wish you good luck De-Ro, may you properly represent the streets of Compton and Toronto, garner attention from the event, and leave the organization in 4 years, cough.

Telephoned - Off The Hook Mixtape

I downloaded this mixtape today and I was so impressed that no matter that it's not my usual type of music, I had to share the wealth. Telephoned is a duo signed to A-Trak's record label Fool's Gold, and is comprised of producer/DJ Sammy Bananas and Maggie Horn. Their music samples hip-hop beats but also has elements of electronic music and plenty of pop influences as well. Although most of the tracks are based on covers, they're very original and atypical. To be honest, even if they were straight copies, Horn's voice is so soothing that this would be worth the download anyways. For the best listen, this mixtape should be enjoyed as it is - aka from beginning to end straight.

Telephoned's debut album drops this coming Tuesday, but until then head over to RCRD LBL and grab this gem for free while it lasts.

Brand Blast: Canada Goose

I've been really busy lately and haven't had much time to scour the interwebs for stuff to share, but I thought I'd finally get around to doing something really important: posting stuff my readers actually asked me to post.

First up, we have the ubiquitous Canada Goose coat - a brand that multiple people have asked me to blast (ok not exactly in those words, but whatever). This brand markets themselves perfectly, combining style with functionality, and the best part is that they have no problem admitting it.

"We have been manufacturing innovative, high quality outerwear in Canada for over 50 years...People wear our brand because of our reputation for quality, functionality and style," reads their website.
At school, on the bus, downtown, uptown, wherever, these jackets line the streets and are easily recognizable. The two main features are (on most models) a furry hood and the symbolic patch found somewhere on the garment, certifying not only authenticity, but for those who actually live in real cold, sorry Toronto, protection and safety as well.

These jackets are here to stay. The only downside is the price as the pieces typically hover around the $600 price range. Obviously that is a lot of money to throw around, but from the responses I've received, it seems that the warmth and comfort these bad boys provide, it's all worth it.

Supra Skytop II for Spring

According to NiceKicks, Supra is dropping two new colourways of the Skytop on Friday and they'll be available through Factory 413. Even though Factory 413 only ships Stateside, I'm really feeling the blue/gold pair so I'm posting these anyways. The leather over the mesh creates a very cool illusion that the shoe is layered. Supra continues to drop quality pairs of shoes. I might need to go cop some lowtops for myself when all the snow melts.

By no means am I a tech geek; in fact besdies the basics of my Mac and my Blackberry, I don't know much about gadgets at all but this tablet thing, wow... My brother told me about it last week and I didn't at all understand what he was talking about but since that conversation, I've read up on a little and it sounds freaking awesome. Gizmodo called it an "iPhone on steroids", and is patiently awaiting its release - which is rumoured to be January 27th. So what exactly is this? I asked my brother Michael, the resident tech junkie, and his answer was unexpected. "No one knows; that's the beauty". Hmm..well whatever the heck it does, it looks damn cool and as soon as I get more info, I'll pass it along. Religious Zealot of the Day

As you hopefully have all heard by now, the island of Haiti was rocked yesterday by a devastating 7.0 level earthquake that is said to have killed somewhere in the realm of 100,000 people. The country, and countries around the world, are scrambling to mobilize aid and stabilize the island that has seen schools, hospitals and tons of other buildings collapse in the capital Port-Au-Prince. While most the world waits, prays and donates, Pat Robertson said the following:

It's amazing how certain religions are frequently picked on for their radicalists but others, being the status quo, are frequently passed over. I don't want to start a debate about history and religious philosophy but I just wanted to point out that ALL religions have individuals who have no trouble provoking all sorts of reactions with strong words or actions. As I write this, Robertson is the number #2 trending topic (essentially the most spoken about person, place or thing of the moment) right behind Haiti and here are some sample tweets:





Trust me when I say there are plenty more. In fact, there are almost 50 new tweets every 20 seconds or so.
Please readers, I am not asking you to give money (although by no means am I asking you not to) but please stay informed on the topic seeing as we as Canadians share a language with the people of Haiti and many Canadian residents are of Haitian descent - including Governor General Michaëlle Jean. The Toronto Star and the BBC will surely be updating their websites with information about Haiti as it is realeased.
